(Mr. Jones is at the New Chitose Airport and a clerk at the counter is explaining to him about his flight delay.)

场景:机场询问处    人物:Check-in Clerk、Mr. Jone


Clerk: Good evening, sir. Can I help you?

Mr. Jone: Yes, my flight to Tokyo has been delayed and I’ve been waiting here for three hours! (Showing the clerk the boarding card) Actually I have to transfer at Narita Airport to another flight to Xi’an early tomorrow morning and I have an important appointment at 12 o'clock p.m.

Clerk: I’m really sorry about that, sir. Narita Airport has been closed due to the heavy fog. And all the flights to and from that airport are delayed because of poor visibility.

Mr. Jone: How long will the delay be? 

Clerk: Maybe another hour. The plane will take off as soon as the weather in Tokyo gets better.

Mr. Jone: OK, then.

(An hour later. )

Clerk: Mr. Jones, I’m sorry but we have just been informed that your flight has been canceled due to the heavy fog. But we’ll arrange tonight’s accommodation for you, please take your belongings and follow me to the shuttle bus stop to the hotel.

Mr. Jone : Oh, that’s too bad! You know I have to transfer at Narita Airport to Xi’an early tomorrow morning. Now the flight tonight has been canceled, I need to know what to do!

Clerk: Is your next fight still with our airline, sir?

Mr. Jone: Yes.

Clerk: OK, don’t worry, sir. The airline computer is keeping track of what is happening with you. Upon your arrival at Narita Airport, we will help you find an alternate flight with our airline to Xi’an. 

Mr. Jone: I think the flight I’ll miss is the only flight tomorrow from Tokyo to Xi’an.

Clerk: OK, in that case, we’ll check for a flight from Tokyo to Xi’an with another carrier.

Mr. Jone: What if I get stuck in Tokyo and have to spend another night there?

Clerk: Well, in that case, since the flight delay was not your fault and you have planned to continue on with our airline, we will cover the cost of a hotel room.

Mr. Jone: Thank you very much! That’s, that’s good. Upon my arriving at Narita airport, do I have to call anyone?

Clerk: You’ll see staff of our airline at the arrival hall. I will forward your information to them and they can fix the problem for you and direct you.

Mr. Jone: OK. Thank you!

Clerk: That is OK.
