Smith: What can you offer, Ms. Lynn, if we need to pack some silk stockings?
Lynn: Well, we have different ways of packing silk stockings for sea shipment. As a rule, we use a polythene wrapper for each article, all ready for shelf selling.
Smith: Good. A wrapping that catches the eye will certainly help push sales. With keen competition from similar producers, the product must not only be of nice quality, but also look attractive.
Lynn: Right. We’ll see to it that the silk stockings appeal to the eye as well as to the purse.
Smith: What about the outer packaging?
Lynn: We’ll pack six silk stockings in one box. And the boxes are of different colors. There will be ten boxes in a carton.
Smith: Can you use wooden cases instead?
Lynn: Why wooden cases?
Smith: I am afraid the cardboard boxes are not strong enough for sea transportation.
Lynn: No need to worry. The cartons are lined with waterproof plastic sheets, and as the cartons are made of cardboard, they will be handled with care.
Smith: Ok, but I am concerned that in case of damage or pilferage, the insurance company will refuse compensation on the ground of improper packing, or unsuitable packing for sea voyage.
Lynn: Well, we will use wooden cases if you insist. But the charge for that kind of packaging will be considerably higher, and it also slows down delivery.
Smith: Then, I will cable home immediately for instructions on that matter.
Lynn: Please do. I will be waiting for your soonest reply.
Smith: I will call you tomorrow. Good-bye, Ms. Lynn.
Lynn: Good-bye, Mr. Smith.
