John Walker: Good morning. John Walker’s office.

Anne Walson: Good morning, Mr Walker! This is Anne Walson from Hope Trading Company. I’m calling to ask about the opening of the L/C under the Contract No. W10305.

John Walker: OK, according to the practice, Ms Walson, we will open the related L/C 15 to 30 days before shipment.

Anne Walson: I see. Could you send us the L/C 30 days before shipment so as to make all the necessary arrangements?

John Walker: Yes, as a matter of fact, we’ve already applied to our opening bank, and we’ll try to send the irrevocable sight L/C to you 30 days before shipment.

Anne Walson: Thank you for your consideration. It will certainly facilitate us to take up the necessary arrangements after receiving the L/C.

John Walker: We understand. It takes time for you to prepare for the goods, and documents as well.

Anne Walson: Yes, we need to prepare quite a lot of documents to provide the negotiating bank after delivery stipulated by the L/C.

John Walker: Emm, credit is only available by negotiation of your draft in duplicate at sight for 100 percent of invoice value drawn on us, together with the full set of clean on board bill of lading, signed commercial invoice in triplicate, packing list in duplicate, and certificate of origin in duplicate.

Anne Walson: Right, so many documents. We will hand in all the required certificates and documents to the negotiating bank within the validity of the L/C.

John Walker: I think it is better to present the documents as soon as possible after delivery. In that case we can take delivery of the goods earlier with the documents from you.

Anne Walson: We will. It’s also beneficial to us because we can negotiate the payment earlier, too. Could you tell me the time of shipment in the L/C?

John Walker: Sure. Sure. The time of shipment will be not later than Aug. 31st, 2014. Partial shipment and transshipment are not allowed.

Anne Walson: That means we will have to load the contracted goods on the direct steamer in one lot.

John Walker: That’s right. More details will be included in the L/C, and we will fax you a copy of the L/C immediately after it has been opened.

Anne Walson: Thank you. We are looking forward to your L/C.

John Walker: You are very welcome. Thank you for your calling.

Anne Walson: Goodbye.

John Walker: Bye.
