Ernst: Good morning, everyone. I’m Ernst Sherman, the Personnel Manager here. First of all, I'd like to welcome you all for joining us and welcome to our department.
All: Thank you!
Ernst: You are welcome! I’m going to talk with you today, about the company organization. Let’s look at this chart here. As you can see, on the top is the Board of Directors, Mr Nile Carlson is the chairperson, and below is the Managing Director, who is in charge of six major departments, namely, the personnel department, the accounting department, the purchasing department, production department, sales department and the marketing department.
Daisy: Excuse me, it’s said our Managing Director is a lady?
Ernst: Yes, that’s right. That's Ms Bright Young and she is the Managing Director. She is responsible for the routine operations of the company and reports to the Board directly. She has been in this position for more than 8 years.
All: Great!
Ernst: We have another important woman in our company, Ms Linda Horngren ; she is our Accounting Manager and in charge of money-in and money-out of the company. Under her, there are 5 different offices performing different functions .
Christine: Oh, a big department.
Ernst: Yes, er, Mr Martin Fillmore is the Sales Manager. He’s got the largest amount of workforce in our company, more than 150 people including temporary staff. As you can see, two divisions are under his department: the export division and the after-sales division. Mr Paul Shaw and Ms Helen Wang are in charge of each division respectively, and they report to Mr Fillmore.
Carter: Mm, Mr Sherman, I see there are two divisions under Mr Paul Shaw, what are they?
Ernst: Oh, those are two subdivisions, in charge of the sales in different regions: one is responsible for the sales in Asia, and the other for the sales in Europe and North America. Two young men, Mr Philips Barday and Mr Thomas Zhou are leading these two divisions respectively, they report directly to the Export Manager, Mr Shaw.
Christine: Don’t we have any business in other regions, say, Africa or South America, Mr Sherman?
Ernst: No, that’s not the case. We’re doing business in some African countries, but the volume is so small that it’s unnecessary to set up an individual division.
Carter: Er, Mr Sherman, I’m wondering what the After-sales Department will usually do, because I’ll be working there.
Ernst: Right, well its major task is to gather feedbacks about our products from the end-users, cope with the problems resulting from the use of our products, like complaints and so on.
Carter: Thank you, Mr Sherman.
Ernst: Sure Our Marketing Manager is Mr Justin Smith, who is in charge of organizing promotion campaigns, working out marketing strategies, and the like. Under him, Ms Hagner is responsible for Public-relation Department and Mr. Castro takes care of the Advertising Department.
Christine:Mr Sherman, you just mentioned Production Department, who is in charge of it?
Ernst: Ah, that's Mr Hopkins ; he was cooperates closely with Mr Richard Zhang, the Purchasing Manager. Mr Zhang is responsible for purchasing things used for the production or in the operations of the company, such as raw materials, machines, furniture, office supplies and many other things.
Christine:I see.
Ernst: Yeah, and finally comes our Personnel Department. As you know, I’m in charge of this department, and we are mainly responsible for making payments, recruiting new employees, planning training courses and so on. We have two divisions: the Training Office and the Labor Management Office. Ms Wise is the head of the former division, and Ms Hughes, the latter one.
Daisy: Mr Sherman, could you please tell us the members of the Board are?
Ernst: Sure. Some managers themselves are members of the Board. Ms Bright Young, the MD, Ms Linda Horngren, the Accounting Manager, .... and so on and so forth.
